This is a beginner natural dye class. We will be learning about the history of natural dyes, and their uses. We will be dying without the use of mordants, but will have their uses explained in the class. We will be using cochineal and marigold as dye stuff, and will be dying 100g of worsted weight wool for each colour. These colours produce a rich yellow, and a vibrant red/purple.
Materials Included: 2 Skeins of worsted weight undyed wool, marigold and cochineal.

Thrummed Mitten Class
Date: Friday’s, February 25, March 4
Time: 7 – 9pm
Cost: $50 – $70 (+hst)
Instructor: Patti Mclaughlin
Thrummed mitts originated in Newfoundland and Labrador – where there is a real need for extra-warm, insulated mitts.  Thrums are pieces of fleece or roving that are torn, shaped, and inserted into stitches as you knit, to create a fleecy insulation on the inside of the mitt.
These mitts will be knit on two needles only.  They’re easy and fun to knit, and we’ll provide a pattern suitable for children, women and men.  They make excellent gifts that make up quite quickly.
Materials Needed: 1 skein Briggs and Little Heritage yarn, 100 g fleece or roving for thrums. 3.75mm and 4mm needles.
