Goodbye Caitlin….

Hello Loves,

This is my favourite Caitlin picture of all times

This is my favourite Caitlin picture of all times

I am letting you know that I am no longer working at Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store.
I am going to miss it terribly, but I am moving on to work primarily on my natural dyeing and artistic practice. I am still going to be teaching natural dye classes there (check out their blog next week to see what is coming for February and March!!) And I will also still be selling my naturally dyed yarns there. It seems like right now is the time for me to change my path. This is such a big and scary change!

I will still be found at the shop a lot (Seriously… my yarn addiction is ridiculous!), and I love the crew there so much. Each person that works at Baaad Anna’s is such a creative, and wonderful person. I also will want to see the faces that i’ve gotten to know over the last three and a half years.

Anna and I have been friends long before the shop opened, and will continue to be friends until forever. We met years ago through anti-poverty organizing, and have been through so much. I am really blessed to have Anna in my life.

I want to thank Anna, Hilary, Nicola, Sylvia, and Amy for being the most amazing co-workers someone could ask for. I also want to thank everyone I’ve met through the store. The community that has grown because of Anna, is incredible. Remembering what it was like to walk into the shop for the first time in July 2009… and seeing it now is such an incredible thing. The first month before opening we painted, and stained all of the cubbies, and figured out the computer, and just generally learned how a yarn store should run. It was such a big job that was taken on by Anna, Luke, and a group of amazing friends. And then opening day! So much has changed, but the heart is still the same. It is a brilliant community of fibre people.

So with that, Thank you.
Thank you for the inspiring, exciting, and fibre filled ride.
And thank you for being such amazing friends.

With all of my love,
Caitlin

We will be having a HUGE goodbye party for Caitlin at the shop on Wednesday. January 30, anytime after 6:30 pm.  We hope that ALL of you can come and party with us!

It is hard to put into words how much Caitlin means to me….no seriously, I am usually not lacking words, but how do you properly thank your right hand…..that is what Caitlin has been.

I remember the day that I told Caitlin I was gonna open a yarn store, and asked if she would join me on this crazy ride. I remember the day that we met at the Sweet Tooth Cafe and I showed her the ‘spot’ for the first time.  I remember every f*&^*ing cubby we painted…which is amazing because we were high on paint fumes and cheap beer the entire time! I remember Caitlin explaining the basics of retail to me (cause I had absolutely no experience). I remember the day the doors opened……and the list could go on.

Her knowledge and skills have shaped the way Baaad Anna’s does business.  Her creativity and style can be found in every inch of the shop, the community and energy that surrounds the store generated by her….She has had an enormous impact on everything that is Baaad Anna’s.  She is such a generous, caring, creative and fun person to have around – most of you have witnessed her incredible talent in the fibre arts world and also,  experienced her compassionate ear, her contagious laughter, words of encouragement and helpfulness.

Caitlin has been invaluable to me over the past 3.5 years and I know that they will be very huge shoes to fill….I will miss her dearly in the shop…but I am so excited to see the things that she will do in her own career.  I have not-so-secretly coveted Caitlin’s talent, in her designing, dyeing, knitting and even modelling 🙂 so I know that whatever she does next will be fantastic….and I feel honoured to be close to it.  That being said…we are not letting her out of our grasp TOO much, we will have her amazing yarn, and classes at the shop.

Things will certainly change a bit at the shop –  Caitlin’s departure means that I will have to seriously start knitting more (all her samples are gone, and half the walls are empty) but I am so thankful to have 4 more fantastic women who bring amazing things to the store.  I truly hope that you all can come by the shop on January 30th to say ‘goodbye’ to Caitlin. And keep your eyes on Caitlin’s blog for she will be doing amazing things – and I wish her nothing but the most amazing success – I will miss you Caitlin ffrench!

Oh wow! Gus and I will miss you terribly. I hope to run into you at the store or in the hood. Thanks for being supportive of my starting to knit despite my insatiable desire to always ignore instructions. Good luck Caitlin – you are special!
