Where Did Summer Go? Prizes, Tasting, and All-Round Good Times.

Christmas is around the corner and I’m still wondering where the summer went. We have a number of prizes to hand out from past few months.

50 purple hats knit for charity.

The Purple Hat Knitting event in late September was a great way to spend a day. We had many people drop off purple newborn sized hats in the weeks prior to our event, and by the end of it we had 50 hats to donate in support of raising awareness of Purple Crying.

When I went to donate these hats at BC Children’s Hospital, they let me know that to date this year they have collected 13,051 hats!!! — enough to give a purple handknit hat to every baby born in BC’s hospitals and health units for at least the next three months! Congrats to Joanne R. who won our draw for a skein of Three Irish Girls yarn. She also knit 8 baby hats to donate on her own… many babies thank you!

Some of the prize skeins up for grabs from Three Irish Girls, JOMA Yarns, and Mudpunch.

We also wrapped up our Summer of Skills event in September where a number of our customers tried their hands at new techniques, crafts and yarns.  Karen [Opiatepix on Ravelry], has won herself a Mudpunch self-striping yarn with this entry for which she learned a slip-stitch plaid pattern… gorgeous!

Also, I want to award a second prize of a skein of JOMA Yarn to Anne Rell who learned to spin with a drop spindle this summer… check out some Instagram pics of her progress! Way to go Anne!

This week we had a number of celebrations for the launch of Wollmeise yarn in BC! There were a few prizes and giveaways to be had at Saturday’s Launch Party, and now we have two winners of our social media giveaways including Courtney E. [via Facebook] for her Facebook entry, and Lindsay [Lindsayturtle on Instagram] who each won a mini Wollmeise prize package.

One of the two Wollmeise prize packs won this week.

Congrats to all of our winners! You can pick up for package from the store anytime after opening on Tuesday. Happy crafting!

Thank you as well to the bakers dozen who attended our Wollmeise Yarn Tasting. It was such a pleasant way to spend a Friday evening. With such positive feedback, we will be sure host another of these on the Spring and perhaps focus the next round on some of the amazing Canadian talent we have!
