Freeform knitting is a fun way for knitters to explore the artistic possibilities of knitting to make blankets, wall hangings, handbags, tea cozies, or pillow covers that resemble paintings done in yarn. It’s yarn anarchy! Come and find out how to bring out the best in a yarn, play with texture, play with colour. There is no wrong answer in freeform knitting; all the extremes are welcome, and the middle-of-the-road is a nice place to play, too.

This class is freeform too. If you’re brand new to the art of freeform knitting, I’ll get you started. If you’ve mastered the basics, I’ll show you something new. Techniques you can make use of include perpendicular joins, picking up stitches, short rows, modular knitting, cables, lacework, duplicate stitch, ruffles, flowers, i-cord embellishments. Minimum 5 and Maximum 8 participants.

Materials needed: Any yarn you like, and bring your stash! This type of knitting is the perfect use for tiny bits of interesting yarn. Bring yarn to swap.A variety of needles in different sizes, both straights and circulars. Optional: darning needles, crochet hooks, and a stitch dictionary. Supplies can be purchased at Baaad Anna’s.
