Knitter of the Month – MARCH
Meet Mary Brockman! She is our knitter of the month for MARCH 2010! Mary learned how to knit at a young age, and knit for a long time, but hadn’t picked it up in many years. She came in mid-February with a pattern in hand and wanted to make an intricate heart blanket for her granddaughter. She used the Diamond Luxury Merino Superwash Aran in a dusty rose and started at it.
A week later Mary came back and had frogged her blanket three times and was about to do it a fourth – she just couldn’t get the pattern straight. We sat on the couch and worked out the problems, came up with some solutions (like a row counter) to ensure that she could finish the blanket. Four weeks later Mary came in with an AMAZING blanket – which we wrapped together and she sent off to her granddaughter.
Mary was so inspired by the blanket that we have seen her every week since. This is a picture of the matching sweater she just whipped up to match the blanket. The pattern is the Offset Wraplan by Sara Morris on Ravelry. Mary has also completed a pair of socks, and is well into her second, and is working on a second baby blanket.
We totally admired Mary’s desire and courage to just pick it up again and do it – and her stick-to-it-iveness even after frogging her blanket 3 times! Mary received a $20 gift certificate to the store for being knitter of the month!
