Purses and Bags

Hello Kitty Purse

Every time one of my neices start school, I make them a ‘back to school’ bag. Sadie got the punk rock backpack from the Stitch n Bitch book by Debbie Stoller with an image of the Little Mermaid back in 2008.

And this fall Telly started her first year of kindergarten.  She is a huge fan of Hello Kitty, so I decided to make her a little Hello Kitty purse. I used the Maple pattern from Knitty and tweaked it a bit. I loved the handle and bag construction as it is seamless – and a really clever design. I did not felt the bag however to ensure the image would stay crisp.  If you are looking for a simple felted or non-felted bag check out the free pattern from

I knit up this bag using the classic Galway Worsted yarn – a versatile 100% wool that I use for more projects than any other yarn.  It is a great worsted weight yarn for any project really and if you choose a felted project, it also felts up really well. I’m in the final stages of finishing the Spiral Bag project from Ella Rae’s eighth book “Bags”.  It’s a perfect little felted purse for the fall season. Pictures to come soon of the finished bag.
