Beginner Crochet
Dates: Monday – January 10, 17, 24, 31
Time: 6:00 – 7:30pm
Cost: $65 – 85 (+hst) sliding scale
Instructor: Hilary Jones
Crochet is a lot easier than you think. Its versatility and endless creative possibilities make it a favorite among many handcrafters. This class will teach the basics of crochet including: making a chain, working in the round and three of the most common stitches. The project for this class will be a simple beanie.
Materials required: Chunky weight yarn and 6mm (j) crochet hook


Cozy Socks – Intermediate
Dates: Sunday, January 9, 16, 23
Time: 1 – 3pm
Cost: $65 – $85 (+hst) sliding scale

Who doesn’t love a pair of hand knit wooly socks? This is a great class for beginner sock knitters since they’re knit up on bigger needles. All the basics of building a sock will be covered in this class, plus you’ll walk away with a great pair of cozy socks that are perfect for wearing around the house or under big boots ~ and they make great gifts! Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.
Materials needed: 6mm dpns and 200g worsted weight wool or 400g chunky weight wool


Felt of the Month Workshop

Play food is a great thing to have in the playroom, but why get the plastic stuff? Felted wool can be sculpted to any shape you like, and you’ll get toys that are warm to the touch, durable, non-toxic, and beautiful. In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of needle felting and make a few pieces of play food to take home. This workshop is intended for adults, but children from 8-12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class (those 13 and up do not need to be accompanied). Each participant pays for the workshop separately, but may share materials and tools if they wish. You will need to have rubber gloves, a needle felting tool, and a needle felting mat. Materials needed: a Needle felter and a felting mat.

Elizabeth Zimmerman Knit-A-Long
Date: Mondays, Jan 10, 17, 24, 31
Time: 12:30 – 2:30pm
Cost: $65 – $85 (+hst) Sliding Scale

For 50 years, Elizabeth Zimmerman and her daughter Meg Swansen have been pillars of the knitting world with their spirited independence and their clever patterns for cozy, gorgeous basics. This class is for those who are enjoying the warmth and wit of an EZ pattern and would like some support and instruction while they do so. Try your hand at a Tomten or a Baby Surprise jacket. Take a crack at your first Pi Shawl or Percentages sweater.
Materials Needed: one EZ pattern or pattern book, materials and tools required to make your project, and a sense of adventure!


Finishing Techniques
Date: Saturday, January 8
Time: 1 – 3pm
Cost: $35 (+ hst)
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to finish a garment. Topics covered include the following: blocking, seaming, weaving in ends, grafting, sewn bind off, picking up stitches, joining yarn, buttonholes.
Materials Needed: One skein of worsted weight yarn in a light, solid colour; needles in the right size for the yarn; a darning needle.
Before class: Please knit four squares: two in stocking stitch and two in garter stitch. Each square should be 3-4 inches wide and tall.
