Beginner Knitting

Dates: Tues – March 8, 15, 22, 29

Time: 6:00 – 7:30pm

Cost: $65-$85 (+ hst) sliding scale

Instructor: Hilary Jones

This is a beginner knitting class for anyone who has never picked up needles, or for someone who is looking for a beginner refresher. Participants will learn the basics including casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. The class project will be a choice between simple leg warmers, hat, scarf, or arm warmers. Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.

Materials needed: One pair of 6.5mm needles and 2 ball of a chunky weight yarn.


Beyond the Basics – Intermediate

Dates: Thur – March 3, 10, 17, 24

Time: 6:00 – 7:30pm

Cost: $65-$85 (+ hst) sliding scale

Dates: Sun – Mar 6, 13, 20, 27

Time: 1:00 – 2:30pm

For those who can knit and purl and want to take their knitting to the next level. You’ll learn techniques like, increasing, decreasing, cables, following patterns and deciphering abbreviations. An appropriate project will be offered, however if you have a pattern you’d like to bring in to work on, please bring in when registering. Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.

Materials needed: Materials will be based on the project chosen.



Cozy Socks – Intermediate

Dates: Saturday – March 5, 12, 19

Time: 1 – 3pm

Cost: $65 – $85 (+hst) sliding scale

Who doesn’t love a pair of hand knit wooly socks? This is a great class for beginner sock knitters since they’re knit up on bigger needles. All the basics of building a sock will be covered in this class, plus you’ll walk away with a great pair of cozy socks that are perfect for wearing around the house or under big boots ~ and they make great gifts! Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.

Materials needed: 6mm dpns and 400g worsted weight wool or 200g chunky weight wool


Felt of the Month Workshop

Play food is a great thing to have in the playroom, but why get the plastic stuff? Felted wool can be sculpted to any shape you like, and you’ll get toys that are warm to the touch, durable, non-toxic, and beautiful. In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of needle felting and make a few pieces of play food to take home.

This workshop is intended for adults, but children from 8-12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult who is also taking the class (those 13 and up do not need to be accompanied). Each participant pays for the workshop separately, but may share materials and tools if they wish. You will need to have rubber gloves, a needle felting tool, and a needle felting mat.

Materials needed: a Needle felter and a felting mat

Time: 12 – 2pm

Saturday, March 26 – Eat your Veggies


Finishing Techniques

Date: Monday, March 14

Time: 11am – 1pm

Cost: $35 (+ hst)

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to finish a garment. Topics covered include the following: blocking, seaming, weaving in ends, grafting, sewn bind off, picking up stitches, joining yarn, buttonholes.

Materials: One skein of worsted weight yarn in a light, solid colour; needles in the right size for the yarn; a darning needle.

Before class: Please knit four squares: two in stocking stitch and two in garter stitch. Each square should be 3-4 inches wide and tall.

Baaad Anna’s strives to offer accessible and affordable classes, while supporting and respecting the work of instructors. We are trying out a ‘sliding scale’ for the registration fee, and hope that participants will pay based on their own income!
