Beginner Knitting

Dates: Sat – May 7, 14, 21, 28

Time: 1:00 – 2:30pm

Cost: $65-$85 (+ hst) sliding scale

Instructor: Hilary Jones

This is a beginner knitting class for anyone who has never picked up needles, or for someone who is looking for a beginner refresher. Participants will learn the basics including casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. The class project will be a choice between simple leg warmers, hat, scarf, or arm warmers. Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.

Materials needed: One pair of 6.5mm needles and 2 ball of a chunky weight yarn.


Beyond the Basics – Intermediate

Dates: Thur – May 5, 12, 19, 26

Time: 6:00 – 7:30pm

Cost: $65-$85 (+ hst) sliding scale

Instructor: Hilary Jones

For those who can knit and purl and want to take their knitting to the next level. You’ll learn techniques like, increasing, decreasing, cables, following patterns and deciphering abbreviations. An appropriate project will be offered, however if you have a pattern you’d like to bring in to work on, please bring in when registering. Minimum 5 participants and maximum 8.

Materials needed: Materials will be based on the project chosen.


Beginner Crochet

Dates: Sunday, May 15, 22, 29 June 5

Time: 1 – 2:30

Cost: $65 – $85 (+hst) Sliding Scale

Instructor: Hilary Jones

Crochet is a lot easier than you think. Its versatility and endless creative possibilities make it a favorite among many handcrafters. This class will teach the basics of crochet including: making a chain, working in the round and three of the most common stitches. The project for this class will be a simple beanie.

Materials required: Chunky weight yarn and 6mm (j) crochet hook


Drop Spindling

Date: Saturday, May 14
Time: 12 – 2pm
Cost: $38 (+ hst)
Instructor: Kirsten Zerbini

Learning to spin your own, unique yarn is fun and easy. In this two-hour session, you’ll learn how to make a basic, single-ply yarn from prepared fiber to finished skein. Come and play!

Materials needed: a drop spindle. A choice of wool rovings will be provided as part of the class.


Summerflies Shawl

Date: Thur’s May 19, 26, June 2, 9

The Summerflies Shawl has been a HUGE hit at Baaad Anna’s. It is a great beginner lace project and can be knit in a variety of yarns, lace, fingering weight or DK. It is a great spring/summer shawl and the perfect project for these warm spring days!

If you have never done lace, but always wanted to try this is the class for you! Or if you want a great shawl project, you will not be disappointed. Participants will also learn basic blocking techniques!

Materials Needed: Minimum 400m of lace, fingering or DK weight yarn. 4mm circular needles 24” minimum.


Natural Dye Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 21

Time: 3:30pm – 5pm

Cost: $55 (+hst) Materials Included

Instructor: Caitlin ffrench

This is a beginner natural dye class. We will be learning about the history of natural dyes, and their uses. We will be using alum as a mordant, and the yarn will be pre-mordanted. We will be using logwood as dye stuff, and will be dying 50g of worsted weight wool. This colour produces a rich purple.

Materials Included: 1 skein of worsted weight undyed wool, logwood dye-stuff.
