Knitted Stuffies and Birthdays!
As some of you know my son turned 1-year old this past month. I can hardly believe how fast this year has gone by. And I feel so blessed and thankful for such a happy healthy kid, and such a fantastic community of people around him.
I made Bohdan a little bear for his birthday – the party was a Teddy Bears Picnic theme – and it is B’s favorite song! I used the Debbie Bliss pattern “Sleepy Bear” from the Debbie Bliss Magazine Winter/Fall 2010.
I knit the bear in the Diamond Luxury Merino Superwash DK and the Bear’s scarf out of the same yarn. I didn’t do the rabbit suit (but plan to finish it). I love this yarn, and I love the concept of knitting toy’s/animals/amigurumi for kids – however, I didn’t really enjoy the pattern, there was too much seaming and tiny little pieces and in the end, the construction was a little wonky (although I admit could totally be the fact that I pieced it together at 1am the night before his birthday).
I certainly enjoyed doing “Elijah” by Ysolda Teague much more – with its seamless construction and all the pieces knit in the round, it was a total dream! And I will probably try out more of her toys in the future. Like the polar bear Otto – he looks super cute! I have also been looking for a good Owl stuffy to try next, so if you have a favorite send it my way!
Here is a photo of Bohdan’s birthday cake – I’ve been doing more and more cake decoration lately, but this is my favorite! I discovered a fantastic recipe for Marshmallow Fondant, and not being a huge fondant fan, I really loved that this just tastes like marshmallow’s.
