Briggs & Little

September 27, 2012

I wanted to write a little post about the Briggs & Little Yarn that we carry in the store, and also some of the fantastic projects that people are making with it!  At Knit City, we will be staffing the Briggs & Little table, we are super excited about their yarn, and hope you will stop by the table at Knit City to see it!

Hilary’s sweater with Country Roving

Briggs & Little is a mill that has been producing Canadian wool for over 150 years. Here is a post I wrote about their yarn when we first started carrying it! Recently, their Country Roving has been gaining popularity – probably because more and more knitters are wanting to try their hand at the traditional Cowichan style sweaters. Last spring we hosted a presentation and workshop with Author Sylvia Olsen and her book “Working with Wool”  – a history of the cowichan sweater. She talked about the traditional cowichan sweater and the rich history behind it, her book is totally worth reading. She also talked about learning from these traditional styles and bringing in our own unique histories and tradition. We have seen some fantastic things being created with this in mind!

Roo Sweater out of Softspun

Briggs & Little also has some fantastic other yarns that we stock, including Super, Softspun, Tuffy and most recently some of their softspun has been dyed by east coast dyer fleece artist.  Come stop by our table and check it out on October 13&14 at the Croation Cultural Centre for Knit City!
