Say Hello to Spring with Anker’s Summer Shirt
Spring is teasing us with longer days and just enough sunshine to make you wonder if it’s time to trade your woolly jumpers for something a little lighter. And what better way to welcome the season than by casting on your very own handknit tee?
This April and May, we’re inviting you to join us in making the Anker’s Summer Shirt by PetiteKnit ,a dreamy little top-down tee that’s as wearable as it is addictive to knit. With its neatly ribbed yoke and no-fuss construction, it’s the kind of project that feels just fancy enough to show off your skills, but simple enough to keep your knitting relaxed and meditative.
Best of all? There’s no seaming. None. Nada. Just pick up your yarn, cast on at the neck, and knit your way down to the hem. You’ll be able to try it on as you go, giving you the freedom to customize the length, shape, and fit until it feels just right. Whether you’re dreaming of a cropped tee with a high waisted skirt or a longer, swingy top to throw over jeans, this is your chance to make it your own.
Over four evenings, guided by the ever-wonderful Jackie Blackmore, you’ll explore the magic of top-down construction, learn how to shape a yoke with increases that almost disappear into the fabric, and discover how a few clever tricks can make your garment fit like a dream. Jackie has that rare combo of technical know-how and warm, joyful energy that makes even the most complex techniques feel doable—and fun.
This class is perfect if you’ve already got the basics down. Maybe you’ve finished a scarf or two, tried knitting in the round, and are now itching for that next step—your first real handmade garment. There will be some homework between sessions, so expect to knit at home (preferably with snacks and your favourite show on in the background). We’ve built in extra time between the second, third, and fourth classes so you won’t feel rushed.
Class meets on four Mondays: April 14, 21, and May 5 and 19, from 6 to 8 PM. The cost is $115 plus tax, and materials are not included. You’ll want to gather your yarn and needles ahead of time—and yes, we’ve got some delicious options at the shop, from Estelle SW DK, Wollmeise DK to our latest hand-dyed gems. After you register, we’ll send you a little email with swatching instructions so you’re ready to hit the ground knitting at the first class.
As for what you’ll need—think of it like packing for a knitting getaway. You’ll want your circular needles in a few lengths, some double-pointed needles (unless you’re on Team Magic Loop), and those trusty notions like stitch markers, scissors, and darning needles. If that sounds overwhelming, don’t worry, just pop into the shop and we’ll help you get kitted up.
So if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, wondering if you’re ready to knit your first sweater, consider this your official invitation. You are ready.
And spring? It’s calling.
