Socks In The News!

We reached our goal of collecting 52 pairs of handknit socks for the opening of the 52 new residents of the Kaslo Modular Housing!

This project was featured in The Vancouver Sun yesterday and will also be broadcast on CKNW’s Steel of Approval feature today at around 5:45pm!

Each pair of socks can take anywhere from 6 to 18 hours of knit time to complete, so aiming for 52 donations was no small feat. We hit our target this last week, and subsequently received an additional 13 socks to date, allowing a new goal of providing the nearby Franklin Street temporary modular housing project with 39 pairs of socks for their recently housed residents. Furthermore, through the Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store’s social media promotion of this goal they also received enough hand-knit cowls to offer to the City’s female-only new Modular Housing in the downtown east side that provides another 39 units to the city’s most vulnerable residents.

The socks for the Kaslo project will be distributed through Adrian Dix’s office along with welcome packages his staff have been collecting through additional donations in the community. If you knit and want to contribute, Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store is continuing to collect and redistribute socks, yarn, and other hand knits to this and other such projects in the community. We have received donations from BC’s Interior and even Washington State for this project!
