This is a beginner knitting class for anyone who has never picked up needles, or for someone who is looking for a beginner refresher. Participants will learn the basics including casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. The class project will be a choice between simple cowl or arm warmers.

The class runs over four weeks in a single month.  *Each session is one hour long with an additional half hour extension added if we have four or more registrants.

MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED AND INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING (current shipping turnaround min. one week; or call (604) 255 2577 for more immediate curbside pickup which can be arranged any day between 11am-2pm).

Next Steps Beginner Knitting – Online via Zoom

Ideal for knitters still new on their journey!   Over two 1.5 hour sessions you will earn to knit your first hat!   
We will cover pattern reading, joining and knitting in the round, working the mistake rib pattern, magic loop or DPN’s (knitter’s choice) and decreasing.
Skills Needed: Knit, purl, cast on and bind off.

Beyond the Basics: Cables and Magic Loop Hat – Online via Zoom

DATES: Wednesdays January 12, 19 and 26th from 6:00-7:30 pm PT.

TwistMeRound hat is a spiral knit cable design by Rebecca Glazier. In this three part series, Rebecca will be teaching how to cable, create eyelets and the method of magic loop for the crown of the hat.

Skills Needed: Confident in knitting and purling.

Intro To Double Knitting Workshop – Online via Zoom

DATE: Sunday January 30th from 10:30am to 1:30pm PDT.

THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS via ZOOM, so you will also need to have a decent internet connection and download the free ZOOM app. Instructions will be emailed before 1st class.

Double knitting is so much fun! And maybe not as spicy as you think! In this class you’ll learn the modern style of double knitting – working with two colours across the row at the same time and mirror reversed patterns. Once you have this skill you’ll be able to go on to design your own double knit patterns!

Skills Required: Knit, purl, cast on and bind off. Experience in two handed colourwork knitting is helpful – if you haven’t tried this yet Rebecca suggests you practice knitting and purling with yarn coming from your non-dominant hand before the class.

Materials Needed:

  • 20g / 43 yards (40 m) each of DK or Worsted weight yarn in TWO colours.  Smooth yarn is prefered such for example Estelle SW Merino DK or Sugar Bush Bold
  • Needles in size suitable for yarn weight.

DATE: Saturday February 5th from 9:30-12:30pm PT

THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS via ZOOM, so you will also need to have a decent internet connection and download the free ZOOM app. Instructions will be emailed before 1st class.

We spend too much time on our hand knits to throw them away when they get a hole. Join Holli Yeoh for a three-hour, practical repair class. You’ll learn Swiss darning, stocking darning and how to use a knitted patch to repair a hole. The techniques are transferable to commercially made garments, as well.

Holli will share other repair strategies including needle felting to repair small holes.
Skill Level: Suitable for beginners and beyond.
Materials needed:
  • Homework swatch – instructions sent upon registration
  • Some small amounts of yarn for repairs in the same weight as your swatch but not in the
    same colour. For this class, you want to be able to see your fixes!
  • Yarn needles: blunt tipped and a sharper needle
  • Two double pointed needles in a size appropriate for the weight of yarn/swatch
  • Crochet hook approximate size of knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Locking stitch markers
  • Small embroidery hoop, if you have one
  • Rubber band
  • Knit items (hand or commercial knits) with holes or thin spots for a discussion on strategies
    for fixing them

Holli feels strongly about fine craftsmanship, believing that while there’s more than one right way to do things, it’s important to do it right! To this end, she teaches skills that enable knitters to feel justified pride in their finished objects, while accommodating different knitting styles and preferences. Students leave her workshops with an arsenal of valuable techniques, deep understanding of the choices to be made in knitting, and new confidence.

Beyond the Basics: Colourwork Alaska Hat – Online via Zoom 

DATES: Sundays February 6, 13, 27th and March 6th from 10:30-12:00 pm PT.

THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS via ZOOM, so you will also need to have a decent internet connection and download the free ZOOM app. Instructions will be emailed before 1st class.

In this fun class you will learn how to knit colourwork with two hands as you make the beautiful Alaska Hat by Camille Descoteaux.  Using just two colours of fingering weight yarn the colour combinations are yours to discover.  From dark silhouettes against a gentle sunrise or a blazing sunset to snow covered trees and a stormy sky. The possibilities are endless.

Our instructor Rebecca will also be teaching how to weave in your colours as the work floats across the back as well as the ladderback jacquard technique for catching longer floats.

These techniques will be useful in all your colourwork projects including sweaters so this is a great class if you are ready to add some colour and design to your knitted wardrobe.

Skills Needed:  Confidence in your ability to knit and purl, cast on, bind off in the round.

Beyond the Basics: Brioche Star Hat Online via Zoom

Brioche and star stitch, cable motifs and Celtic knots all come together in this project based class. You will learn all of these techniques whilst making the gorgeous Brioche Knots Hat designed by Katrin Schubert.

You will also learn how to add a rolled stockinette border to any hat pattern, and the alternative brioche decrease stitches!

Skills Needed: Confident in knitting and purling. Previous experience of creating yo’s is helpful as well as knitting in the round.

Next Steps: Beginner Wrist Warmers Online via Zoom

DATES: Sunday March 13, 20 and 27th from 12:30-2:00 pm PT

Ready to take the next steps on your knitting adventure?   Build on the skills you have learned in the Beginner class and join Rebecca as you learn how to make your first set of wristwarmers.

You will be knitting in the round using the Magic Loop.  This is an invaluable technique which you can use for all your future projects that have small diameter knitting such as hats, socks and sleeves just to name a few.

As well you will learn how to increase stitches for the thumb gusset, knit with multiple colours using stripes and learn how to sew your ends in for jogless stripes.

Skills Needed: Knit, purl, cast on and bind off.
