Tip Toe Up Sock Class with Holli Yeoh – Online via Zoom

THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS via ZOOM, so you will also need to have a decent internet connection and download the free ZOOM app. Instructions will be emailed before 1st class.

This toe-up sock class is a skill building opportunity to knit socks with completely replaceable heels and toes. Over three weeks we’ll tackle the beautifully invisible Turkish cast-on, Holli’s favourite increases, placeholder stitches for the heel, a stretchy sewn bind-off with no sewing, opening a large hole in your sock for the heel, and grafting on the needles. Take this opportunity to learn a “new-to-you” technique for working in the round: two circular needles, one long circular needle for the Magic Loop technique or double pointed needles. Or feel free to use needles that you’re most familiar with while learning the other new skills.

There will be homework each week so you’re ready to try the next step in the class together.

You may knit a sock of any size, but plan to work about half the sock between each class. If you’re knitting a sock for someone else, come to class with the foot circumference and foot length (not shoe size).

Skills needed: Participants should have experience knitting in the round. If you’ve never knit a sock before, use heavier yarn such as DK or worsted weight and needles about two sizes smaller than the ball band recommendation.  We recommend the Uptown Worsted on 3.5-3.75mm needles.  This will knit up faster and be more a pair of slipper socks.

Materials needed:

  • Two coordinating sock yarns in light or medium colours (about 100g of the main colour and a small amount for the heels and toes.)  One Ancient Arts Passion8 100g skein will knit a pair of socks. If you want a second colour for contrast heel/toe, you can buy two skein and then you have enough yarn for your first TWO pairs of socks (with the second being a reversed set of the main and contract heel/toe colours).
  • 2.25 mm needles
  • Two circular needles; 24” (60 cm) length is recommended but this method can be done on any length of needles
    • OR
    • If you want to learn Magic Loop you’ll need one circular needle; at least 32” (80 cm) long
    • OR
    • If you want to use double pointed needles, you’ll also need two circular needles, any length
  • Measuring tape
  • Basic knitter’s toolkit
Materials can be purchased at Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store.  (Current Canada Post shipping turnaround is min one week, please be sure to order supplies with enough time for them to arrive before the start of class; OR call (604) 255 2577 for more immediate curbside pickup which can be arranged any day between 11am-2pm)
Materials included:
Digital copy of Holli Yeoh’s Tip Toe Up Socks pattern.
DATES: Saturdays September 12, 19 and 26th from 9:30-11:30am PDT.

COST: $95 (+tax)
