NEW YARN: Essence Of Autumn
Another new yarn that snuck in over the busy season is from an amazing Canadian dyer that we are excited to be introduce as part of our 2021 lineup: Essence of Autumn. There is much to love about this yarn from the saturated colourways and fibre content to the charming label featuring a beautiful image of creater Sheryl Cox. The hand dyed colour ways are absolutely gorgeous and filled with depth and range from subtle to bold variations.
Hand-dyed yarns are so much fun to play with and the allure is the amazing and often unexpected results. Essence of Autumn colour changes are equally distributed throughout the skein which will then will blend though your knits with stunning results. When using hand-dyed yarn playing around with the most basic stitches and patterns to experimenting with different stitch combinations will become extraordinary.
And although we are launching these in our Spring lineup, the love of Autumn is timeless:
“In our native country Autumn is a breathtaking, spectacularly beautiful and unruly time of year. Brightly coloured leaves swirl and play in the crisp untamed breezes. That fresh, invigorating spirit makes you just want to breathe deeply and fill your lungs with the joy of living. That spirit… that Essence of Autumn is what we try to capture in our yarns and designs.
However this Essence does not depend on a location or time of year. It is a journey and adventure that impels you to grab a hold of life and experience it.”

Meet the Yarn
Here’s the three Essence of Autumn bases we have in-store and online at Baaad Anna’s:
Essence of Autumn Gilded Merino
As if soft superwash merino wool wasn’t beautiful enough, add just a hint of shimmering, gold light to take it over the top. This 3-ply, gilded lily of a yarn will make any garment sophisticated and mesmerizing.
- Fibres: 84% Superwash Merino / 16% Gold Stellina
- Gauge: 27 – 32 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)
- Needles: 2.25 mm – 3.25 mm (US 1 – 3)
- Weight: 3-ply Fingering (1)
- Length: 115 g / 420 yards (384 m)
Essence of Autumn Pasture Sock
Blue Faced Leicester wool is known for its strength, lustre, drape and excellent stitch definition. The 3-ply construction with added nylon makes this an ideal sock yarn. However, it is suited to a wide variety of finer knit or crochet garments.
- Fibres: 80% Superwash BFL / 20% Nylon
- Gauge: 27 – 32 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)
- Needles: 2.25 mm – 3.25 mm (US 1 – 3)
- Weight: 3-ply Fingering (1)
- Length: 115 g / 407 yards (372 m)
Essence of Autumn Prairie Worsted
With it’s smooth, round texture and 4 plies, this yarn will showcase intricate cable work to perfection. Sweaters, cardigans, hats, scarves, socks, wraps and so much more… The possibilities are endless for this classic weight yarn.
- Fibres: 100% Superwash Merino
- Gauge: 16 – 20 stitches = 4 inches (10 cm)
- Needles: 4.5 mm – 5.5 mm (US 7 – 9)
- Weight: 4-ply Worsted (4)
- Length: 115 g / 210 yards (192 m)
For all three yarns, take care of them by hand washing in cold water and laying flat to dry. As with other hand-dyed yarns, we recommend purchasing sufficient yarn for your project in one go as tones may vary between dye lots and from skein to skein. In case you are not already aware, but Baaad Anna’s has a very forgiving policy on yarn returns (allowing returns of any unused, new-condition skeins many months past the regular purchase return date, to allow for people to purchase plenty to spare all from the same dyelot, and have enough on-hand to complete a project without running out!). Another great trick with hand-dyed yarn is to alternate your skeins as you knit to avoid any striping if you are using multiple skeins of one colour in a project.
