Give Back Sunday Knitted Knockers
In the excitement of a new year, we encourage ourselves to take some time and think about our knits that do good. One of our community-focused projects over the last few years has been the continuous support of an amazing knit- and crochet- for others opportunity: the Knitted Knocker Campaign.
Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. This volunteer knit and crochet opportunity has been led by a quiet army around the world for many years now, and locally championed by the West Coast Knitters Guild.
How to Help:
- Use soft to touch cotton yarn
- Knit or crochet a pair of knitted knockers without stuffing
- Drop off at Baaad Anna’s or any of the other LYS drop off points coordinating with WCKG
We are excited to finally carry in-store Cascade Ultra Pima yarn! 100% pima cotton, this yarn is one of the most highly recommended yarns for knitted knockers because of how SOFT and easy to care for it is.
Pima is super-soft pima cotton and great for all seasons! Ultra Pima is a DK weight knitting yarn so it’s very versatile to design anything from a sweater to baby garments! Ultra Pima is much softer than other cotton yarns and does not feel stiff. Because Ultra Pima is mercerized using a different process, we believe it’s in a league of it’s own. Ultra Pima is machine washable for easy care.
