May Workshops!
Spring is a lovely time to learn something new and we have a wonderful line of up of May workshops to chose from.
Whether you want to try your hand at a new fibre art such as making your own woven tapestry on a frame loom, learning to spin on a drop spindle, creating 3D projects with needle felting OR ready to build on your knitting skills to go beyond the basics with the Sophie Scarf, we have them all on offer for you.
As well we have our next session of the Beginner Knitting Classes starting on Friday May 5th!

Sophie Scarf Workshop
DATE: Saturday May 13th from 9:30am-12:30pm.
Discover the fun of knitting up a quick Sophie Scarf using only 1 skein of yarn!
We will walk you through all the techniques used in the pattern including the built-in i-cord edges, the special increases & decreases and the tricks to help you keep track of them.
We will also discuss the various sizing options and how to adapt the pattern to get the scarf length and fit you want.
Warning, this is a quick and addictive project so you may find yourself making more than one! It also
makes the perfect gift.

Prerequisites: Experienced Beginner, Student can Knit, Purl, Increase & Decrease.

Jackie is an avid knitter, fibre artist & teacher. She appreciates how knitting keeps your brain sharp while still being so meditative, restorative and creative. She loves teaching knitting to new students and sharing all the helpful tools, tips and tricks she’s learned over the years.

Frame Weaving Workshop
DATE: Saturday May 6th from 4:00-8:00pm.
This is a one day workshop that will open up a world of creativity and leave you with the skills and materials needed to continue on your fibre arts journey.
Participants will learn how to set up and use the equipment from warping, different stitches and techniques to finishing a beautiful tapestry piece.
Suitable for beginners, no prior weaving experience needed.
Materials (INCLUDED): Participants will receive an Ashford Weaving Frame and all the materials needed to create your own four colour tapestry.
DATE: Saturday May 6th from 4:00-8:00pm.
INSTRUCTOR: Ji Choi
Ji’s weaving journey started during her university years using a variety of sizes of weaving frames and shaft looms. She has been working on frame weaving creations from little mats to huge wall hangings with different weaving techniques and diverse fibre materials. She is also a knitter and potter who studied Digital Craft Arts, which was a combination of fibre, ceramics, and metal crafts.

Learn to Spin with a Drop Spindle Workshop
DATE: Saturday May 20th from 1:30-3:30 pm.
Want to learn to spin your own yarn? This 2-hour workshop will teach the basics of how to make your yarn with a drop spindle. Participants will be spinning a single ply yarn and will receive a basic intro to the process of spinning your own yarn from beginning to end. Participants will also learn various drafting techniques.
Materials (INCLUDED): Participants will receive an Ashford Student Top Spindle and 50 grams of Corriedale wool in the colour of your choice.
MAY DATE: Saturday May 20th from 1:30-3:30 pm.
INSTRUCTOR: Ruth Griffiths
Ruth started rigid heddle weaving in the mid-eighties, and then moved on to a floor loom. She recently rediscovered it with added enthusiasm due to the direct warping method. She also spins, knits, dyes, weaves on both rigid heddle and floor looms, and plays with cats.

Beginner Felting Workshop – In Person
Date: Sunday May 28th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Come by for a 2-hour IN-PERSON workshop to learn a new art! Needle felting is quick and fun way to create three dimensional fibre art pieces.
Baaad Anna’s is happy to welcome local artist Mel Broome to come teach the basics of needle felting. Participants will learn: the basics of 3D needle felting, the tricks to creating a fine finish on your work, how to mix and shape wool like a pro. No previous felting experience necessary.
Baaad Anna’s strongly supports the wearing of masks and for the health and safety of staff and participants we encourage them to be worn during the class.
Materials INCLUDED: Includes fibre roving for project, felting needle and felting foam block.
Date: Sunday May 28th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
INSTRUCTOR: Mel Broome
Mel is a natural ambassador for felting, touting portability as one of its greatest assets, as well as the fact that it’s suitable for broad ranges of age and ability. She takes her felting with her wherever she goes and finds it an easy conversation starter and way to connect with people.

Beginner Knitting Class
DATES: DATES: Fridays May 5, 12, 26th and June2nd from 6:00-7:30pm. *please note no class on May 19th
This is a beginner knitting class for anyone who has never picked up needles, or for someone who is looking for a beginner refresher. Participants will learn the basics including casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. The class project will be a choice between simple cowl or arm warmers.
The class runs over four weeks in person at Baaad Anna’s, please arrive 15 minutes before the start of class or earlier if you would like time to browse.

INSTRUCTOR: Nadia is a strong advocate that knitting is for everyone. Having entered the world of fibre arts in her university years, Nadia believes the best form of self discovery is trying something new. Knitting provides both the space and the means to be creative for ourselves and those around us.
