Baaad24in24: Sweater Vest

You may remember my #Baaad24in24 goal of FINISHING 24 projects in 2024 and although I have been remiss at sharing my projects, here is my final installment of the 2024 FOs.

Today’s topic: Sweater Vest, or Sweater v. Vest?

So I ran right up to the holiday deadline for my final FO (finished object) of 2024, which conveniently was FO#24! This was from the same book of patterns as the sweater in last week’s blog, Viking Knits by Norwegian designer Lasse L. Matberg. The reason this is a fantastic book is because it is chalked full of sweater and matching accessory patterns in the timeless style of traditional Scandinavian knitting but using compliment of modern textures and fibre combinations. Also, it has a number of coordinating (but not exact) patterns for men’s garments, women’s garments and an almost matching child’s version… yes three unique patterns/takes on a single style, all done for a number of different sweaters within one book!

So for my Papa, I chose the Papa Pullover and I was impressed that instead of the typical rustic lopi wool often used in Scandinavian knitting the fibre content in this garment was a blown yarn that created an airy but warm knit. I chose Estelle Alpaca Drift from our sister store, Baaad Rabbit Fibre Arts, and was pleased that the fabric it created was light as air, but still retained some structure. So while I was waiting to track down yarn for my other Viking Knits sweater, I started this knit one week before Xmas.

Unlike the misadventures I had with the Crowdsourced Sweater, I had plenty of yarn, just much less time. Taking advice from my teenager on christmas eve I wrapped up when I had knit up 2 that point with an IOU note; and hence my Papa got a vest and an unattached single sleeve. But the funny part was when we walked through the door Papa greeted me wearing his holiday best: a button up shirt with a HAND KNIT SWEATER VEST made by my mom! And it turns out he prefers vests to sweaters, so although he did in fact receive the second sleeve before the end of the year I believe that to this day this Papa Pullover has remained a Papa Sweater Vest. Some things just work out for the best.

And voila! 24 finished objects in 2024, now all wrapped up with a bow! 2025 is almost a quarter complete, and I’m onto a new goal which I will share with you soon; but it has been nice to finish tracking a successful year of crafting! How are your crafting goals coming along?
