Learn to Spin with a Drop Spindle Workshop

Want to learn to spin your own yarn? This 2-hour workshop will teach the basics of how to make your yarn with a drop spindle.

Participants will be spinning a single-ply yarn and will receive a basic intro to the process of spinning your own yarn from beginning to end. Participants will also learn various drafting techniques. MATERIALS (INCLUDED): Participants will receive an Ashford Student Top Spindle and 50 grams of Corriedale wool in the colour of their choice. COST: $80 (+tax) all materials included

INSTRUCTOR: Ruth Griffiths Ruth started rigid heddle weaving in the mid-eighties, and then moved on to a floor loom. She recently rediscovered it with added enthusiasm due to the direct warping method. She also spins, knits, dyes, weaves on both rigid heddle and floor looms, and plays with cats. Beginner Spinning with Katrina of Crafty JAK’s

DATES: Tuesdays, October 7, 14, 21 and 28th from 6:00-8:00 pm.

In this beginner series, discover the joy of learning to spin your own yarn. Katrina will guide you through the steps of making your singles, plying, and finishing your yarns, as well as how to measure and work with them afterwards. Participants will receive a 3.5 week rental of an Ashford Two Treadle Kiwi Spinning Wheel and 150 grams of Corriedale wool in three colours of their choice. If you are bringing your own wheel, please make sure it is in good working order with a minimum of 3 bobbins. If you are unsure if your wheel is in good working order, please reach out before registering.

Intermediate Spinning with Katrina of Crafty JAK’s

DATES:Wednesdays, Nov 5, 12, 19, 26th and Dec 3rd from 6:00-8:00pm.

Take your spinning to the next level! In this Intermediate Spinning Class, Katrina will work with you to develop a more in depth understanding of your yarn structure, fibres, and twist and how these things affect your finished yarn. She will also be covering project planning and colour management. This class is designed for the curious spinner who wants to better understand how they make yarn. Please bring a wheel, a lazy kate and 3-4 empty bobbins with you to class. If you have a spinner’s control card, that is also handy to have but not mandatory. Prerequisites: Students must be able to spin a continuous thread. Materials Needed:

Spinning Wheel in good working condition. If you do not have your own wheel Baaad Anna’s has a limited number of Ashford Kiwi Spinning Wheels available for this class. Please select the correct option for you from the drop down menu.*We may be able to adjust inventory based on demand so please contact us if your selection is sold out!
