Project of the Month: Flying the Coop Sweater

Y’all might know me as being a bit chicken-crazy, but how good is this All Cooped Up Sweater knit by Christie, curator of one of our local Free Fibre Libraries. Our September Project of the Month is this amazing and somewhat challenging chicken sweater but Christie took her colourwork game to the next level by ladderbacking the stranded work to minimize the potential for puckering. You too could level up… Did you know our sister store, Baaad Rabbit Fibre Arts offers classes on the Ladderback technique??

Even better: as we love to support local this brilliant pattern is farm fresh and home-grown by a friend-of-Baaad-Anna’s designer Caitlin Shephard @pluckypigeonknits. We are huge fans of Caitlin’s work as her colourwork patterns create whimsical garments that certainly aren’t for the weak!

But the third and bestest reason this month’s project is a winner-winner-chicken-dinner is that the yarn that it is knit in, Estelle Highland Alpaca Fine, is currently ON SALE with a decently large selection of colours and quantities! Swing by in-store to check out this lovely sweater and feel for yourself how this yarn feels worked up in colourwork. And maybe explore some of Caitlin’s other lovely patterns to pair up a winning combination before these all fly the coop!
