Can’t Stop Knitting

Specifically, one pattern. Apparently when I was all done the last of my gift knitting and could settle in to whatever knitting my heart desired I found myself knitting the same hat over and over and over again. To the point that I had a 12 days advent-style knit up, where from Christmas Day I knit one hat a day of the very same pattern until I had a cool dozen.

Now, knitting the same pattern twice is not new for me. In fact I usually enjoy the a knit the second time around and have been known to knit in duplicate often. But my motto has usually been: twice, LOVE; thrice okay; but never more! Somehow this pattern, the Haiku Slouchy Hat by Char Kohl held some magic over me.

I was introduced to it when my friend Brenda who couldn’t finish this knit as hoped, and I stepped in to knit a matching pair for her two daughters. And then it continued… I dove deep into my stash of thinner chunky yarn and just enjoyed watching how different yarns worked with the pattern. The two sections of easy-to-memorize cable-style stitches used in this hat is what held me captive. Starting with a simple 1/1 cable it formed a nice springy band, and then moved into a looser faux-cable stitch with beautiful stitch definition for the slouchy part of hat, and suddenly voila, another finished!

Want a stash of quick knits to gift for various occasions throughout the year? This hat may be it! Have you ever had a knit captivate you in this way? Stay tuned as I share more on my adventures of this recent knitting obsession!
