New Intro To Weaving to Begin
We are excited to launch a new Introduction to Loom Weaving class with Ana Sousa of Ana Isabel Textiles. This beginner class has now been lengthened to give students hands-on experience with their first piece immediately, and will include an introduction to a variety of weaving techniques and materials. Over the course of three weeks students will use a full-sized but portable rigid heddle loom to weave two separate projects!
Meant for a complete beginner as well as anyone wanting to brush up on technique and practice, Ana will be covering:
– planning a project
– preparing the loom for weaving
– finishing techniques
– plain weave
– leno
– Spanish lace
– how to create texture using weft pile techniques
– clasped weft
– soumak
– colour blending
– briefly discuss tapestry weaves
– inlays
– fringes
She will be pre-warping a sampler for the first class to give students immediate hands-on experience with these various techniques. Additionally, each student will be able to take home an Ashford Knitter’s Loom for a three week period while practicing these techniques and prepping to make their own full sized project from warp to finishing over the second and third classes.
There is currently one more space available in this amazing class which runs Monday evenings November 7, 14, 21st from 6:00-8:00pm; and keep an eye on our website as we will be posting another class with Ana again in January.
