NEW YARN: BC Garn Sarah Tweed
There’s a new kid on the block at Baaad Anna’s! Introducing BC Garn Sarah Tweed – a DK weight silk and wool blend that comes in gorgeous autumnal colours. Yes, we said autumnal in August. We aren’t wishing away summer (yet) but we are excited to bring out our fall woolies again and Sarah Tweed has us inspired to think about what to make for fall with this soft, airy yarn.
BC Garn is a Danish yarn company that was founded in 1972 and they are known for making quality, ecologically minded yarns, many of which are GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified. In addition to carrying BC Garn Sarah Tweed, we also carry BC Garn Alba GOTS Cotton, a 100% cotton sport weight yarn that is GOTS certified.
The Sarah Tweed yarn is soft and light feeling and combines silk (60%) and wool (40%) to create a unique finish. The silk, mostly noble mulberry silk, gives it a light sheen and its softness, and the wool gives it elasticity and volume. The tweedy characteristic comes from the addition of bourette silk (10%).

While it is a DK weight yarn, it lends itself to using a wide range of needle sizes and you can size up to get an airier, looser fabric or size down to get a more structured, tighter fabric. The colour palette the Sarah Tweed comes in is cohesive and the colours compliment each other so nicely that we could easily see trying to use this yarn for some colourwork or striping.
We are going to be making a Zinone sweater using the Sarah Tweed. The Zinone sweater is a lovely short sleeved sweater that used a combination of lace and stockinette (depending on which option you choose) that would really show off the tweedy and drape of the wool and silk blend. A simple shawl, cowl or hat in the Sarah Tweed would also show off the tweedy texture and colours so nicely.
Here are the details for each skein of Sarah Tweed:

- Needles: 3.0 – 4.0mm (US 2½ – 6)
