12 Days of Knitmas Revealed
This is our fourth year of hand-wrapping hundreds of individual gifts intended specifically for the yarn lover in your life (be it you, or someone near and dear). Each Fall we have been creating a set of a dozen hand-wrapped gifts that the recipient can open all at once, or wade through as an advent celebrating whatever special occurrence makes their heart skip a beat. This week we have officially launched our 2020 Twelve Days of Knitmas advent [#baaadannas12days] and to celebrate we want to do an unwrapping of last year’s 12 Days to give a taste of what can be expected in Baaad Anna’s 12 Days of Knitmas Advent!
The 2019 Twelve Days of Knitmas was centred around local makers and included a themed notions kit which is something every knitter could use in each of their active project bags. Here are the surprises, day by day:
1: Much of the 2019 gifts centred around the sliding-top custom-designed notions tin created for us by local maker Firefly Notes. These awesome Baaad sheep tins were ONLY available in this advent and include a magnet under the red yarn ball sheet on the bottom to capture any loose metal darning needles and notions a fibre artist is often in need of.
2: The perfect sized, super sharp little red scissored are by another Canadian maker, Kelmscott Designs who makes tiny high-quality scissors that are truly works of art. These art deco flower power scissors are only 2.5 inches long which even makes them airline-travel safe!
3: A selection of darning needles and removable stitch markers are always in need, and a great addition to every notions tin.
4: One of my favourite Canadian yarn companies, Americo Designs, who is no longer producing yarns due to retirement! This amazing thick-n-thin bamboo cotton is a one-skein wonder as a single skein can knit up an entire summer-weight shawl, known as a wedding-ring piece cause it can fit through the hole of a ring! Included is Americo’s pattern for this shawl.
5: A jar of a rainbow assortment of buttons!
6: A particularly cool addition to the 2019 package was this hand blown glass bauble, from a local maker The Vancouver Hub just down the street from us. Anyone local is welcome to stop by to learn how to glass blow for themselves at this really cool shared-studio.
7: To go along with the glass bauble, this mini made of Canadian indie dyer, Ancient Arts is included along with a pattern for making your own handmade holiday ornament.
8: Another local maker, Big Blue Moma created these oh-so-Canadian toque stitchmarkers
9: A taste of Wollmeise is always welcomed! This mini 10g skeinette shows off the amazing tight-twist base of the Rohrspatz & Wollmeise yarns that we are a flagship for. I love this german indie yarn as the base which is unique to this dyer has amazing stitch definition and wear, while the colour range is spectacular!
10: The perfect finishing for any hand made gift is a hand made wooden tag with washing instructions! It warms a crafters heart to think things will be treated with the love they deserve!
11: Another amusing locally hand made gift for the fibre artist! A beeswax candle in the shape of a handknit mitt. Pure lykke!
12: And last but far from least is a tribute to another of our favourite local yarn dyers, Sarah Elizabeth Fibre Works with this full skein of eco-dyed (naturally superwash) fingering weight yarn.
And this collection would not be complete without a little letter describing how these gifts were curated specifically for the fibre artist by us at Baaad Anna’s.
