Our Best Gift Knit Recommendations
As crafty gift givers, we unfortunately do not have the luxury of last minute gift-giving. We need to lock in at least in mid-October in order to get our holiday gifts done in time for the end of December. It can be hard to know where to start, so we asked the staff what some of their favourite patterns to make as gifts are. Here are a few tried and tested options from us to you:

Janice recommends Beloved, a bonnet pattern for kids from one to ninety-two by Tin Can Knits. It’s a quick little knit (especially if you do the newborn size!) in a DK weight. I’d make it in Bramble Ridge DK Sock because of the fun colour options, durability and washability.

Cheryl, our crochet queen who is always making all things cool and technical, recommended the One Evening Bauble. I had never seen this pattern before, it’s stunning! I particularly like the little beads that have been incorporated. This one is good for fingering weight scraps and mini-skeins but if you’re looking for a wide palette of fingering weight yarn solids we have the Cascade Heritage Sock.

Bee thinks the Thicksgiving Socks by Summer Lee Knits are the best gift knits for a few reasons. Everyone loves hand knit socks, they are a DK weight so they’re nice and quick, AND you can use up your scraps or mini skeins you got in your yarn advent calendar last year that aren’t really your speed but would be great for your gift-ee.

Sarah has made a few Deep Winter Hats by Wool and Pine Designs and thinks it’s a great gift. The cables are lovely, and the design would work for someone of any gender. It’s another DK weight pattern, and I think would show off our Shelterwood Yarn quite well.

Another Janice recommendation is the PNW Stocking by Faye Kennington. This is such an exceptional gift for any local Vancouverite who loves the sea to sky lifestyle! You could make it in a combination of Copperspoon and Wild Woollys Worsted (dyers from Vancouver Island) to make it a true BC-themed stocking.
Another option many of us forget about is skipping gift knitting all together and sticking to making things for ourselves! Handmade gifts take so much time and effort, and it’s completely reasonable to want to keep all that work for yourself.
Whether you choose to make for others or yourself, don’t forget to share your finished objects with us. Email us photos or tag us on Instagram or Facebook. Seeing your finished objects brings the staff at Baaad Anna’s so much joy!
