We Stand With Ukraine Update
As always, knitters get things done. We received a wonderful response to our call for warm small handknits with the aim to get into the hands of displaced Ukrainians.
In one week we were able to put a box together with 67 hats, 16 mitts, 13 socks, 16 cowls and a felted heart pin. Also as a result of our last blog post, we were contacted by three other knitters who have been collecting warm handknits (including one in the Maritimes and one in New York) who will be shipping a box of knit goods directly to Olesia of @allwoolandayardwide who is currently working on finding the best distribution to get these in the hands of those in need.
We have also been collecting monies to help with the shipping costs of mailing such a huge box of warmth, and will be covering the postage on another west-coast collection from these monies as well.
Check out the love put into this collection…
We will continue collecting donations as part of our ongoing Warm Things Drive efforts. I know there is a lot of unknowns out there on the value of shipping goods, so we will continue to seek out and update here on various options to move these donations into the hands of someone who need a warm hug. Keep posted on Olesia’s IG account on her efforts, and I also have some additional feelers out on various other leads. But know that any that are collected and don’t make it to Eastern Europe before the cold breaks will be added to our ongoing collection to meet local needs.
Thank you for all of your efforts to date. Life feels a little less out of control when we make an effort to connect through our love of yarn.
Here is a good article on lots of other ways to support.
I have many knitted socks to donate – can I drop them off at the store anytime? http://www.csmlove.com
Thank you for your efforts. I purchased a pattern from a Ukrainian designer through Ravelry but was not able to knit it in time for your mailing. I was so appreciative to have something to focus my energy on in the past couple of days, so your post was very helpful and inspiring. For now, I am passing my hat on to a relative with Ukrainian heritage, but still plan on knitting the pattern linked in your previous blog post for drop off. So happy to see the response you have received so far.
That sounds wonderful. Thank you for your kind words.
