Are you a crafty artist? This year’s one day art-n-go seek event is a few weeks away and you still have time to make art to share with your community!
Game of Shrooms is an annual one-day mushroom-themed art event happening on June 13th, 2026. On that day, artists from all over the world hide their original mushroom-themed art works in public places then they give hints (often on social media) for others to find AND KEEP! Any crafter artist can join with original (non-AI) work and spread the love of art for free throughout their community for this one day.
What?
Game of Shrooms, started in 2019 by visual artist Attaboy, is like an Easter Egg Hunt for art and celebrates the spirit of unexpected surprises. Artists and gatherers from Hong Kong, Berlin, Japan, the UK, India, Russia, Switzerland, Tasmania, the US, and many more participate in this world-wide event every year. Envision a collaborative art movement spanning the globe, free from religious dogma, where people actively create, share, and encounter moments of absolute freakin’ wonder.

Shrooms hidden and found last year in East Van.
Last year, thousands across the world participated in their local areas hiding shroomy art and thousands more were delighted to find and take home original artwork! There is a google map of where you can find art drops, and its probably best to check in each artist’s individual IG to see if they have dropped any clues, but generally art is left out in the wild to be found by the lucky!

Yes, And of all ages and abilities. So long as you are not a jerk. And ANYONE can hunt for mushrooms, too.
Does it have to be a mushroom themed piece of art?
That’s the idea. Mushrooms are varied though and art critics have not been invited to weigh in on the subject.
What if no one finds my art?
They probably will find it! Especially if given clues and it is an original work (not a giclee print). But, if they don’t find it, it’s your responsibility to go back and grab the hidden art if they don’t. Leave no trace, be a mushroom ninja. We encourage that you leave clues and tips to friends/fans before the event! And hide near landmarks. Don’t make it too hard to find. Or too easy! Some of the best hiding spots are in plain site! All that being said sometimes folks find work but don’t tell the artist. That’s why we encourage you to make 2-3 works, then hunt for others’ art!
When can I hide my art?
Starting on June 13th 2026 at 12:01 am. until 11:59 pm.
This is my fourth year participating and this year I went with needle punched designs. There will be five art pieces of various size hidden around the Renfrew Ravine (some pictured above, and can be seen in our store window until the day of the event) and I will post hints for each in real time as they are hidden in my Instagram Stories on the day! In past years I have knit some, needlefelted, and with my kids we made air dried woodland sculptures. We have found artwork made of stain glass, pen & ink, pottery, blown glass, silkscreen, and other fibre arts such as cross stitch and free hand embroidery. What would be YOUR medium of choice?
Our 2023 contribution to GOS included knit and art-dried clay mushroom art.
I found this free knit pattern that took me about 2.5 hours to complete each fun guy.
Who’s gonna to join us? Post if you plan to hide or seek!
