Dyeing

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON WORKSHOP held outside at Baaad Anna’s and adhering to social distance protocols. For the health and safety of our staff and participants, we require masks to be worn at all times.

In this hands on workshop you learn how to prepare extracts, use shifters, combine colours then hand paint your own yarn!

A wide selection of natural dye extracts and shifters will be provided along with a 100g skein of WildWestDye’s Singles fingering merino/ cashmere/ silk blend (75/15/10) prepared for natural dyeing

We will also discuss how to prepare your own yarn for dyeing with both scouring and mordanting.  A hand out will be provided for future use.

No experience needed!

Materials Included:
  • 1 x 100g skein Wildwestdye’s Singles fingering merino/ cashmere/ silk blend (75/15/10)
  • Rubber gloves

Materials Needed:

  • Wear old clothes or an apron
  • Mask (regular, non-medical is sufficient)
  • Knitting to work on whilst yarn is steaming.

COST: $115 (plus tax)

Minimum 3 and max 8 participants

INSTRUCTOR:

Rebecca has been knitting since she was 7 years old and has always had a love for textiles and colour. Teaching people how to knit expresses one of her greatest joys; sharing her creativity and passion with people. Originally from the UK, she has called Vancouver her home for the last 6 years.

Learn how to make your own Indigo Thiox Vat!

In this hands on workshop you will prepare your yarn and discuss ways to get different results; colour depth and resist techniques.
We will also discuss and discover the fun of over dyeing your own stash.
Come away with your very own hand dyed yarn and pattern to make WildWestDye’s Simplingo Hat and Wristwarmer Pattern.
No experience needed!
Materials Included:

Materials Needed:

  • Wear old clothes or an apron
  • Mask (regular, non-medical is sufficient)
  • Optional (but recommended!) : Students can bring 1 x 100g skein of yarn to be over dyed (does not need to be cream, can be any colour, results will vary depending on base colour of yarn) – must be minimum 80% natural fibres (wool, silk, cotton, bamboo etc..) Yarn will need to be in a skein.
  • Knitting to work on whilst we wait for the Indigo Vat
