Fall is officially upon us! Time for learning new skills and staying cozy; We have you covered for both with our online fiber arts classes! Learn from the warmth and comfort of home with our amazing teachers and wonderful online learning community. From Beginner and beyond there is something for everyone.
Coming up in October we have the following:
BEGINNER KNITTING with Rebecca Glazier – ONLINE via ZOOM
OCT DATES: Tuesdays October 5, 12, 19 and 26th from 6:00-7:00*pm PT ∼or∼
NOV DATES: Wednesdays November 3, 10, 17 and 24th from 6:00-7:00*pm PT
*Each session is one hour long with an additional half hour extension added if we have four or more registrants.

This is a beginner knitting class for anyone who has never picked up needles, or for someone who is looking for a beginner refresher. Participants will learn the basics including casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. The class project will be a choice between simple cowl or arm warmers.
The class runs over four weeks in a single month. *Each session is one hour long with an additional half hour extension added if we have four or more registrants.

Socks for Beginners with Holli Yeoh -Online via Zoom
DATES: Tuesdays October 5, 12, 19 and 26th from 6:00-7:30pm PT

For the knitter who has been knitting for a while and feels like they’ve found their footing. Let’s put a sock on it!
Over a few weeks you will knit a top-down boot sock (DK-weight) or an around-home sock (Worsted-weight). You can also knit a tiny sock if you don’t have time for homework. If you’re a knitting socks for someone else, bring in their measurements: foot circumference around the ball of the foot and length.
Techniques To Be Learned:
- Holli’s favourite stretchy cast on
- Circular knitting with double-pointed needles (DPNs), or two circular needles or one long circular needle for Magic Loop (your choice)
- Avoiding ladders and loose stitches
- Heel construction including heel flap, heel turn and picking up stitches around the heel
- Grafting (Kitchener stitch)
- Getting the right fit

Beyond the Basics: Lace – Online via Zoom
DATES: Wednesdays October 6, 13, 20 and 27th from 6:00-7:30 pm PT.

Chart reading, yarn overs, p2togtbl, e-wraps and lifted increases are just some of the many techniques you will learn during this all about lace class.
Join Rebecca as she guides you through techniques the in’s and out’s of lace knitting as you work together on her own design, the Feathery Reflection Shawl. A fully reversible lace design which mirror matches from the centre back spine.
Skills Needed: Confidence in your knitting and purling. Previous experience of creating yo’s is helpful.

Mending Workshop with Holli Yeoh – Online via Zoom
DATE: Saturday October 16th from 9:30am-12:30pm PT.

We spend too much time on our hand knits to throw them away when they get a hole. Join Holli Yeoh for a three-hour, practical repair class. You’ll learn Swiss darning, stocking darning and how to use a knitted patch to repair a hole. The techniques are transferable to commercially made garments, as well.
Holli will share other repair strategies including needle felting to repair small holes.
Skill Level: Suitable for beginners and beyond.

Beyond the Basics: Knitting in the Round on Magic Loop Online via Zoom
Dates: Sundays October 10, 17 and 24th from 10:30 am-12:00 pm PT
Interested in knitting in the round with the magic loop? This is a useful technique that will transfer to all your circular projects and a great benefit to small diameter knitting. In this project based class you will make a pair of Rebecca Glazier’s own design SpinYouRound Wristwarmers. Along with the magic loop, you will also be introduced to lace techniques with eyelets and yarn overs.
Suitable for Advanced Beginners

Fair Isle and Steeking – Online Via Zoom
DATES: Saturdays October 23 and 30th from 10:30-12:30 pm
Is steeking on your “learn to do wish list” but feeling a little daunted by this technique, you are not alone! Taking a pair of scissors to your knitting can feel scary, especially if it is on a whole sweater!
Fear not, over the two sessions you will be guided through two handed Fair Isle, how to catch your weaves confidently and not tangle your yarn! In the second session you will cover picking up stitches, button bands and STEEK!
The Steek This Coffee Cozy by Rachel Molenaar is a perfect project to learn these new skills as well as make a great gift.

Learn To Needle Felt Workshop-Online Via Zoom
DATE: Sunday October 24th from 1:00-4:00
Join us for this 3-hour workshop online to learn a new art! Needle felting is quick and fun way to create three dimensional fibre art pieces.
Baaad Anna’s is happy to welcome local artist Mel Broome to come teach the basics of needle felting. Participants will learn: the basics of 3D needle felting, the tricks to creating a fine finish on your work, how to mix and shape wool like a pro. No previous felting experience necessary for ages 7 and up and all materials included!
