Cheryl’s Dyemonds Sweater – Spincycle Dyed in the Wool

Cheryl just crossed another project off her wish list!  She’s completed the Dyemonds Sweater by Josée Paquin using exquisite Spincycle yarn, adding her own twist with modified bottom and sleeve edging.

About the yarn

Fibres:  100% superwashed American wool
Gauge: 20 to 32 sts = 4 inches (10 cm)
Needles: 2.75 – 3.75mm (US 2 – 5)
Weight:  Sport (2)
Length:  50g / 200 yards (182 m)

MADE IN THE USA FROM SHEEP TO SKEIN

MC is Melancholia (medium to dark teal, navy/-ish purple)
CC is Castaway (light blue, grey, brown, orange)

Cheryl started her journey by swatching on US4 needles to ensure the perfect gauge for the stranded colorwork pattern. With 12 stitches and 18 rows equating to 4.5 cm x 5.5 cm, she aimed for a gauge of 26.7 stitches and 32.7 rows per inch.

Using long-tail tubular cast on, Cheryl began the neck ribbing with 136 stitches. She continued with ribbing on US2 needles for 8 rounds, resulting in a 1-inch ribbed section.

Throughout the process, Cheryl encountered challenges and made adjustments to suit her preferences. For instance, she increased to size #4 for the sleeves’ yoke but continued increasing to size #5 for the body, ensuring a comfortable fit.

To match the orange accents at the yoke, Cheryl used TKB cords to hold the main body while working on the sleeves. She followed the chart for size 4 sleeves but started at round 7 to match the size 5 body. Instead of picking up stitches from the body & opted to cast on stitches and planned to sew the seams during finishing.

Switching to Chiaogoo 11” shorties in US4 needles, she continued her knitting journey, making further adjustments as needed. She changed to smaller needles, US2, and MC yarn, and knit one full round. Instead of ribbing, she opted for the horizontal border from the Lyrah sweater, using cable cast on with 8 stitches.

As Cheryl progressed, she encountered a common dilemma among knitters—running out of yarn. With just a few grams of CC yarn left and having already frogged her swatch, Cheryl faced the challenge head-on, showcasing her resourcefulness and determination to see her project through to the end.
