This course will take you through all the steps from sheep & raw fibre all the way to finished yarn and ready for you to knit with. After this course, who knows – backyard sheep anyone?

June 30Solar Dyeing Learn how to naturally dye your yarn and fibre using the sun!

July 7 – Cleaning & Carding In this one hour workshop you will learn how to set up, use and properly clean a drum carder. You will learn how to card a washed but otherwise unprocessed fleece and also how to blend colours with our drum carders.

July 14 Drop Spindle This workshop will teach the basics of how to make your own yarn with a drop spindle. Participants will be spinning a single ply yarn and will receive a basic intro to the process of spinning your own yarn from beginning to end.

 

July 21 – Getting Started on a wheel Always wanted to try spinning with a wheel but not sure you could get started on your own? This workshop will give you all the information you’ll need to start spinning with a wheel. How to set it up (making sure everything’s in the right place!), advice on treadling with a single or double treadle wheel, different drafting techniques, basic plying and basic maintenance. We will be practicing with both of the store wheels, the Ashford Kiwi and Ashford Traditional. If you already have a wheel that you’d like specific help with feel free to bring it.

July 28 – Felting In this workshop you will learn how to design and create your own felt bowl or vessel using wet felting techniques. All supplies included, no experience necessary!

Time: 1 – 3pm Cost: $85 – $100 (sliding scale + hst)
Classes can be taken separately for $30/class

Materials : All materials are included for these classes, including
fibre and any dyes used. Drop spindles will be available for use
during the class, you may want to purchase your own.
