Project of the Decade: Paula’s Baby Bamboo Bear

As today is our Flash Sale of our Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo, I thought I’d share one of my Projects of the Decade, made with this very yarn.

This was one of my first knitting projects ever and it is still one of my favorites. Knit in Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo which Baaad Anna’s has been stocking for much of its ten years, I knit this with the totally wrong yarn but the end result has become a family heirloom. It was knit so early in my kniutting journey and long enough ago for me to not be able to remember or recognize the pattern I used — this one seems to be the closest.

With a waffle-style stitch definition, and hand and foot coverings with slits that allow access to the hands or growth of legs, this is certainly a similar pattern, but the Bamboo I used was far from bulky, making me think there was another version of a similar pattern. This easily adaptable animal onesie by Debbie Bliss is possibly closer…but doesn’t allow for the design elements I loved so much.

One of the reasons this yarn was a happy accident is that the bamboo and wool blend give it a drape and growth so it fit both my daughters when they were under a year old, but all the way up to their third birthdays! Not what you want in a fitted piece, but certainly lovely for anything you want to knit with ease and drape… perfect for summery airy top, or apparently a bear onesie!

Make sure to check out our FLASH SALE today (August 16) on one of our longtime favourite yarns.

And…don’t forget to submit your Project of the Decade before August 24th to win!
