NEW Little Fibre Libraries LAUNCHED
There’s three new Fibre Libraries recently launched, and watch out New Westminster as you are home to TWO of them!
What are Fibre Libraries and how can I find them? We have info and resources here, but if you are interested in hosting one of your own, many have been built in partnership with the Neighbourhood Grants Program; check here for the various deadlines for applying for funding here. (The east van one will be accepting applications btwn Mar 15th and Apr 30th).
A Yarn Barn popped up on Henley St in New West this weekend hosted by a friend of the store… check it out @feathersandwool ‘s beautiful creation…
And nearby you will find the Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG) of New Westminster located at 815 Edinburgh Street, a sister-project to our Free Little Libraries that includes fibre arts along with their offerings of free arts & craft materials and kits. Baaad Rabbit Fibre Arts recently partnered by offering some of our upcycled fibre donations for felting kits that will be distributed here. Also, save the date as the organizers of @newwestflag are hosting a launch party on either Saturday March 4 or Sunday March 5 from 1 pm to 4 pm. You can find details of this free and fun outdoor event here.
And closer to home we have the new Fibre Library right in our hood! The Salsbury Fibre Exchange is on Salsbury Drive near the corner of William St adding some eye candy to the neighbourhood in addition to free fibre arts materials!
I especially love how this Fibre Library project has developed a life of it’s own! These three are a great example of neighbourhood initiative and leadership, with their creative names and personalities shining through! We can help with resources and host a map where they can be found for a yarn crawl extraordinaire, but really these are a labour of love from each of their own communities. I love this!
As always, we continue to receive upcycled fibre art materials which we sort and redistribute amongst these awesome local resources. Use the map to feel free to drop your donations directly into these libraries or feel free to bring them to the store in our regular hours and we will be happy to find them a home. (If a larger donation of 2+ boxes, please contact us first by email to coordinate. Also at this time we cannot take donations of books or magazines, but email us if you are interested in rehoming these and we may be able to help you with that as well).
